Duo Two Factor Authentication Setup - Mobile Phone/SMS Text Message


How do I register my mobile phone for SMS text Duo Two Factor Authentication?


Please note: you must have text messaging capabilities on your mobile device to authenticate using this method.

When you first attempt to access an application protected by Two Factor Authentication, you will be prompted to create an account. To set up your mobile phone for Duo Two Factor Authentication, follow these steps:

  1. From the Duo Welcome screen select the Start setup button. 
  2. On the Add a new device screen, select Mobile phone followed by Continue.
  3. Select your Country from the drop-down menu.
  4. Enter the phone number of the device you would like to register.
  5. Confirm that you have entered the phone number correctly by checking the box below.
  6. Select Continue. 
  7. Select Other (and cell phones) as the device type followed by Continue.
  8. Configure Automatic Phone Options (Optional)
    • With this option enabled Duo automatically sends an authentication request via a phone call to your phone.
      1. Select Save.
      2. Select Continue to login.
  9. To configure your device for SMS text message authentication, on the Choose an Authentication Method screen:
    1. Select Enter a Passcode.
    2. Select Send codes.
    3. Enter the passcode you received from Duo via text message.
    4. Select Log In.
  10. You should now have a registered Duo Two Factor Authentication account.
