What is the Report Message add-in used for in Microsoft Outlook?
Answer
The Report Message add-in is a tool for reporting fraudulent email messages to BGSU Information Security and Microsoft. The add-in is only available in the Microsoft Outlook email client and can be used instead of or in addition to reporting fraudulent messages to abuse@bgsu.edu. BGSU account holders using email clients other than Microsoft Outlook should continue to report all potential phishing messages to abuse@bgsu.edu.
Follow the steps below to use the Report Message add-in to report a potentially fraudulent message:
Outlook Desktop Application
- Login to Microsoft Outlook.
- Select the message you would like to report (do not respond to/click on any of the links within the message).
- Select the Report Message option from the top right of the customization ribbon.
- Select Phishing.
- Select Report to confirm that you would like to report the message.
- The message will be automatically deleted from your inbox.
Outlook Webmail Application
- Login to mail.bgsu.edu.
- Select the message you would like to report (do not respond to/click on any of the links within the message).
- Select the ellipses (...) within the message window, to the right of the sender details.
- Select Report Message.
- Select Phishing.
- Select Report to confirm that you would like to report the message.
- The message will be automatically deleted from your inbox.
Outlook Mobile Application
- Open the Outlook mobile app.
- Select the message you would like to report (do not respond to/click on any of the links within the message).
- Select the ellipses (...) next to the sender details and under the received date/time.
- Select Report Message.
- Select Report as Phishing.
- Select Report to confirm that you would like to report the message.
- The message will be automatically deleted from your inbox.
