What is the Report Message add-in used for in Microsoft Outlook?

Answer

The Report Message add-in is a tool for reporting fraudulent email messages to BGSU Information Security and Microsoft. The add-in is only available in the Microsoft Outlook email client and can be used instead of or in addition to reporting fraudulent messages to abuse@bgsu.edu. BGSU account holders using email clients other than Microsoft Outlook should continue to report all potential phishing messages to abuse@bgsu.edu

Follow the steps below to use the Report Message add-in to report a potentially fraudulent message:

Outlook Desktop Application

  1. Login to Microsoft Outlook.
  2. Select the message you would like to report (do not respond to/click on any of the links within the message).
  3. Select the Report Message option from the top right of the customization ribbon.
  4. Select Phishing.
  5. Select Report to confirm that you would like to report the message.
  6. The message will be automatically deleted from your inbox. 

Outlook Webmail Application

  1. Login to mail.bgsu.edu.
  2. Select the message you would like to report (do not respond to/click on any of the links within the message).
  3. Select the ellipses (...) within the message window, to the right of the sender details. 
  4. Select Report Message.
  5. Select Phishing.
  6. Select Report to confirm that you would like to report the message.
  7. The message will be automatically deleted from your inbox. 

Outlook Mobile Application

  1. Open the Outlook mobile app. 
  2. Select the message you would like to report (do not respond to/click on any of the links within the message).
  3. Select the ellipses (...) next to the sender details and under the received date/time.
  4. Select Report Message.
  5. Select Report as Phishing.
  6. Select Report to confirm that you would like to report the message.
  7. The message will be automatically deleted from your inbox.
