What Items/Data Should NOT Be Taken When Traveling Abroad?

Question

What items/data should I NOT take when traveling abroad?

Answer

Inventory the data on the devices you will be traveling with to ensure that you don't unknowingly take sensitive university or personal data on your trip.

  • Leave any unnecessary devices (thumb drives) or media (CDs, manuals, etc.) at home.
  • Never save sensitive information (i.e. social security number, driver's license number, credit card numbers or passport information) on your device.
  • Clear web browser's history, stored passwords and temporary files so that they cannot be accessed.
  • Check encryption data restrictions for the country you are visiting.
  • Review our KB article to see if the country you are traveling to allows for the use of the Duo mobile app or Duo tokens. If it does not, you will need to uninstall/delete the app and/or leave your token behind.
