How do I manipulate data & views in Power BI?
Expand the panels in this article to learn more about various ways to manipulate Power BI data/views.
Power BI offers a variety of filters that can be applied to reports to help manipulate and visualize data, including page, visualization, report, and drill through filters. Information on using Power BI filters is available on the Microsoft website.
Selecting the spotlight feature (flashlight symbol) will grey out the other information on the report to spotlight just the graph you are interested in. This can help draw attention to a specific visual in your report. Instructions on how to add a spotlight to your report are available here.
A slicer is a common way to have a report react to what data is shown by acting as a type of filter for the data. Instructions for using slicers in Power BI reports are available here.
Power BI allows the user to pin graphs and visualizations (tiles) to their dashboards. You can also pin an entire report page.
Focus Mode allows the viewer to open a visual element in a new, larger frame (similar to zooming in) while still allowing you to interact with the data/visualization.
Full Screen Mode removes all of the existing panes around your data so the selected visualization is enlarged, taking up the entire screen.
Detailed information on using Focus Mode and Full Screen Mode is available here.
There are several places to click on reports to allow for interaction and data to change. If you have edit permissions for a report, you can use visual interactions, also known as interaction points, to change how visualizations on a report page impact each other. An introduction to visual interactions as well as detailed instructions for using interaction points to manipulate data are available on the Microsoft website here.
