How do I add questions from a Canvas Quiz into a Canvas Question Bank?

Answer

In order to create a question bank from an existing quiz, the quiz must be exported. This guide will show you how to create a question bank from an existing quiz. For instructions on how to link your question bank to a quiz, see this guide.

  1. Begin by signing in to Canvas and selecting the course you wish to work on.
  2. Select Settings from the navigation pane.
  3. Next, select  Export Course Content in the right navigation pane.
  4. Select Quiz under Export Type.
  5. Next, select the Quiz you want to export.
  6. Select Create Export.
    • Once the export is completed it will appear under Content Exports.
    • The name of the file will begin with QTI Export from and include how long ago the file was created. 
  7. Select the appropriate link under Content Exports. 
  8. Select Save File. 
  9. Select OK.
  10. Select the course you want to add the question bank to.
  11. Select Settings from the navigation pane.
  12. Next, select  Import Course Content in the right navigation pane.
  13. Select QTI .zip file as the Content Type.
  14. Select Browse.
  15. Select the file of the quiz you downloaded and select Open.
  16. In the Default Question bank drop-down, select either an existing question bank or --Create new question bank--
  17. Select Import.
    • ​​​​​​​The file will appear under Current Jobs as completed when done.
  18. You may now connect the Question Bank to a quiz in the course.
