Question
What should I keep in mind when deploying content to Four Winds digital signs?
Answer
When deploying content to Four Winds digital signs, please reference the following:
Deployment Behaviors
Copy from deployment server
- Ideal for:
- 1920x1080 pixel images.
- Template or Layout files (XML, XSL) that are unlikely to change.
- PowerPoint files
- PDFs
**This Deployment Behavior is always the default and typically works when total playlist and deployment file size is not too large.
Use network location
- Ideal for:
- When referencing content on a website (i.e. YouTube).
- Avoid too many of this type back to back in playlists or your device may start overheating.
- Dynamic content that frequently changes throughout the day.
- If changes more frequently then half an hour, then set to "Use network location, no cache" otherwise this setting is sufficient
- Videos
- Media player on Content Player/sign must be able to play with it. Media players already installed on these machines are: Windows Media Player and VLC Player.
- Videos typically require more storage space.
- With Content Feeds (i.e. Adobe Experience Manager/AEM).
Download from network location at deployment
- Ideal for:
- Videos or larger files (use sparingly).
- Live Data or dynamic text
- This content type is used in some areas on campus (i.e. Dining menus), but may require layout adjustment and programming (XML, XSL, CSV) to setup.
- Small Content Feeds
Deployment Time
Once the content editor right-clicks the sign icon or location icon and selects Deploy, a process progress window will display. When that successfully completes, the maximum amount of time for the deployment to be made is 30 to 60 minutes. This is dependent on the last time the sign checked the server for updates and the signs own polling settings.
