How do I use a BGSU copier/Printer?

Answer

Expand the panels in this article for instructions on accessing, installing, or printing remotely to a BGSU office printer/copier. You can determine if your device is a PERRY proTECH device or ComDoc device by consulting the sticker fixed to the device.

*Please Note: BGSU printers cannot be accessed from personal devices.

Access a BGSU Office Printer/Copier / Release Prints*

Please Note: You will have 24 hours to retrieve/release your document from the printer before it is automatically deleted.

PERRY proTECH printers

Users can access and release prints from PERRY proTECH devices using one of the following methods:

Login with your BGSU username and password by tapping the screen and selecting Username and password.
Select ID Number and enter your BGSU Office Printer PIN.

Swipe your BGSU ID card.

ComDoc Printers

Login with your BGSU username and password by tapping the keyboard icon.
Register your BGSU ID card and use your BGSU ID card to login.

Install Printer on Windows Office Computer

The steps below are for university-owned, Windows computers in which you are the primary user.

Please note, due to security updates made by Microsoft most people will not be able to install the drivers for a newly installed printer.

PERRY proTECH Printer Installation Instructions

View our Install Printer on Windows Office Computer (PERRY proTECH) article for instructions. You must be connected to the BGSU VPN/Pulse Secure to install a printer from off-campus.

If you receive a prompt for administrator login when attempting to install the printer, please contact ITS.

ComDoc Printer Installation Instructions

If you already have the driver for the same series of a printer already installed on your computer, however, you may proceed to the steps listed in Installing a ComDoc Printer, below. (For example, if your department already has a Xerox C400/C405 and they have an additional Xerox C400/C405 installed you can then follow the directions under Installing a ComDoc Printer to install the printer.

* If you are unable to obtain the printer name from your department contact, please contact ITS and have the associated ComDoc contract number of the printer (located on the device's ComDoc sticker) readily available.

Installing a ComDoc Printer

Option One

Obtain printer name from department contact.*
In the Windows Search box type \\bgsuprint.bgsu.edu\.
Type the first few letters of the printer name after the backslash (\). For example: \\bgsuprint.bgsu.edu\HAY....
Scroll through the listing and select the printer name.
The printer installation will begin.
Once the installation dialog box disappears and finishes running, the printer is ready to use.

Option Two

Obtain printer name from department contact.*
Open the Run box by holding Windows Key + R.
Type \\bgsuprint.bgsu.edu\PRINTERNAME into the Run box.
- Please note: You must replace PRINTERNAME with the actual printer name to which you wish to connect. For example: \\bgsuprint.bgsu.edu\HAYES000.
Select OK.
The printer installation will begin.
Once the installation dialog box disappears and finishes running, the printer is ready to use.
Test Printing - For each printer added, you may wish to attempt to print a job to verify setup is functional
1. Test prints must be completed with a BGSU user logged in, not a local account
2. Remind client not to test any print job that has sensitive data

Installing Student Print Release Queues on a University Computer

It is possible to add Student Print Release printers (lab printers BG-Print-BW & BG-Print-Color) to a university device. This will allow printing to student printers from university device and will still charge the user's account for printing. This may be desirable, for instance, if a graduate student has a university device but needs to print jobs for their student course work or personal use. For assistance with this please contact the ITS Service Desk.

Install Printer on Apple Office Computer

To have an office printer driver installed on an Apple office device, please contact Information Technology Services.

Print Remotely To a University Printer From a University Device

You can use your University-owned device to print to a BGSU office printer from a remote location by following these steps:

Connect your University device to the BGSU VPN (Pulse Secure).
Open the document you would like to print.
Open the Print window and select the printer to which you would like to print the document.
- If you do not see the University printer you would like to use, you may add it using the steps in the above panels labeled "Install Printer on Windows Office Computer" and "Install Printer on Apple Office Computer".
Select Print to print the document.
Your printed documents should now be available for pickup at the University printer you selected.

Please Note: You will have 24 hours to retrieve/release your document from the printer before it is automatically deleted. Instructions for releasing a print are available in the "Access a BGSU Office Printer/Copier / Release Prints*" panel.
