How Does an Instructor Enable Respondus LockDown Browser for a Canvas Quiz?

Question

How can an instructor enable Respondus LockDown browser for a Canvas quiz?

Answer

What is it?

LockDown browser is a browser that prevents students from looking up other resources on a computer while taking a test.

Students will need to install the browser on their personal computer, or use an on campus computer lab. The only way to download the browser on a student machine is to have a link within a quiz that requires it. If you think your students will install the browser on their personal computer, we recommend setting up a zero point practice quiz using the steps below at the start of your class.

The Office of Accessibility Services has reported to ITS issues when using Respondus LockDown Browser and speech-to-text tools. They have requested that the professor deliver a printed copy of the exam to them prior to students appointment or create a second quiz that is only accessible to the student that does NOT require Respondus LockDown Browser. This will allow them to use their own speech-to-text tools that will work when not using Respondus LockDown Browser.
