How do I access and send a fax using the RightFax web application (FaxUtil)?
Answer
RightFax Web Client is a browser-based client application that can be used for basic functionality. The RightFax Web Client (FaxUtil) works on Microsoft Windows and Apple OS X, and on Apple iOS (on iPads and iPhones). Within the RightFax Web Client home page, users can create, view, edit, and print faxes, along with a number of other useful features for managing fax traffic.

*You must have a BGSU Fax Account configured to perform any of the actions in this article.
Accessing the RightFax Application
To access the RightFax web application you must be connected to the BGSU network/VPN:
- Navigate to the myfax.bgsu.edu.
- Log in with your BGSU username and password.
Sending a New Fax via the RightFax Application
To create and send a new fax:
- Select the +New Fax button to open the Create/Edit Fax page.
- Enter the information for the fax:
- At least one fax recipient’s name.
- Destination type.
- Fax number
- When entering a fax number, you must add a 9 to the beginning of the number for external numbers and a 9-1 to the beginning of the number for long distance numbers.
- For internal faxing, you must use the 5-digit fax number.
- Select Send to send the fax.
Formatting a Fax in the RightFax Application (Cover Sheet & Attachments)
Add a Cover Sheet
Cover sheets are optional for every fax sent from RightFax. The cover sheet can contain additional notes intended for the recipient. Please do not include any confidential or personal information on your cover sheet.
- From the Create/Edit Fax page, scroll down to Cover Sheet.
- Use Cover Sheet is selected by default.
- In the Cover Sheet file drop-down, select the appropriate cover sheet.
- Type the cover sheet notes in the Notes field (up to 21 lines of text).
- To add a comment or specify other sender information select More
Options.
- When ready, select Save.
- Select Send to send the fax.
Attach a File
You can attach files to the fax. Attachments are converted to fax file format when they are sent. If sending a fax to an email address, you can send an attachment in the original file format instead of fax file format.
To Attach a File:
- Under Attachments, select Add File.
- In the dialog box, locate and select the file you wish to attach.
- The file should now appear in the list of attachments.
Send Attachment in Original File Format:
The option to send a file in the original file format is available if you are sending to an email destination. In the list of attachments, in the row with the attachment, select the check box in the Native column.
Retrying a Failed Fax
A sent fax that encounters errors during transmission will be retried the number of times configured by your fax administrator. After the specified number of retries, the server will stop retrying the fax.
Retry Sending a Failed Fax
- In your fax mailbox, from the fax list, select the fax.
- From the fax menu, select Status.
- Select Update Status.
If the fax was previously scheduled to retry, the fax server will retry immediately and not wait for the scheduled interval. If the fax was not previously scheduled to retry, the fax server will attempt to send the fax as if it were new.
Forwarding or Routing an Existing Fax
When you forward a fax, a copy of the fax is sent and the original fax remains in your mailbox. When you route a fax, the original fax is sent and is removed from your mailbox.
Forward to a Fax Number or Email Address
- From your fax mailbox, select the fax you wish to forward from the fax list.
- Select the Fax drop-down menu.
- Select Forward to Fax.
- In the New Fax window, enter the information for sending the fax.
- Select OK.
Forward/Route to Another BGSU RightFax User
- From your fax mailbox, select the fax/faxes you wish to route or forward from the list.
- Select the Fax drop-down menu.
- Select either Forward to User or Route to User.
- To search for users, enter a full or partial username and select Search.
- Select the user.
- Select Add. Repeat as needed.
- In the Notes added to fax history box, enter any notes.
- Select OK to send the fax.
