How do I update my university device to the latest version of Windows?
Answer
Keeping your university device's Windows operating system (OS) updated is important to maintain system security and stability and to be in compliance with BGSU's security standards. To update the Windows OS on your university device, follow these steps:
Update Windows OS
**Please note: The update may take up to 8 hours (depending on internet speeds) so please leave your device open (laptop), powered ON and connected to a power source.**
- Remove all USB devices (except mouse and keyboard).
- In the Windows search bar in the bottom left-hand corner of your screen, type Software Center and select Enter.
- Select Operating Systems from the left menu.
- Select the job named Required BGSU Operating System Upgrade: <Release Version>, where <Release Version> is ITS's latest supported release.
- Select Install to begin the update.
Check/Confirm Windows OS Version
Follow the steps below to check your current Windows OS version/confirm the upgrade was successful:
- Select the Windows Start button.
- Select Settings (gear icon).
- Select System.
- Select About.
- The current Version is listed under the Windows specifications header.
- If the device is currently up-to-date or has been successfully upgraded, the Windows version will be equal to the <Release Version> from the job name.
