Code 42 (CrashPlan Pro) for University Computers

What is Code 42 (CrashPlan Pro)?

Answer

Code 42 has been configured to perioidically backup the contents of the primary user’s home folder (Desktop, Documents, Downloads, etc.) on their primary computer whenever the computer is on the campus network. If off-campus, users must connect to Pulse Secure to successfully backup their device. 

Code 42 is not configured to backup your entire hard drive.  ITS suggests using OneDrive for file storage as it is accessible from anywhere and has one terabyte storage space. 

Note:  Code 42 does not backup filetypes such as DMG, ISO, MSI, music, video, or virtual machine files.  For a detailed list, please contact Information Technology Services.

After initial setup:

  1. Code 42 will upload a backup to the Code 42 server every 4 hours.
  2. Backups are maintained as follows: one copy for every 4 hour period for the last 24 hours, one copy for the last week, and one copy for the last 90 day period.
  3. Previously backed up files that have been deleted should be recoverable for 90 days.
  4. Backups or deleted files older than 90 days are unrecoverable.
