Using Fetch v5 on Mac OS X to Access BGLinux

How do I use Fetch v5 on Mac OS X to access BGLinux?

Environment

Fetch v5 on Mac OS X

Answer

Fetch is available on Mac OS X Systems in ITS Computer Labs.  It can also be downloaded at http://fetchsoftworks.com/fetch/free​

Start Fetch

  • The Fetch application resides in the Applications folder.  To open up the application folder in the Finder menu select Go and then select Applications.  You can also use the [Shift+Cmd+A] shortcut. 

Connecting to BGUnix

  1. Enter the BGLinux address in the Hostname field.  
  2. In the Username and Password fields enter your BGSU username and password.  
    • The BGLinux supports the following protocols SSH (version 2), SFTP and SCP.  
  3. Select SFTP in the connect using field.  
  4. Select the connect button to establish the connection.
  5. Authenticate via Duo* to complete the connection and verify your account. 
    • *If you have your Duo account configured with a mobile device you will automatically receive a push to authenticate. If you have your account configured with a landline, you will automatically receive a phone call to authenticate. Fetch does not support Duo passcode as an authentication option in Fetch.

Transfer a file from BGLinux to your local computer

  1. Before transferring files from BGLinux,  configure the folder where the transferred files will be saved.  
  2. To do this in the Fetch menu select Preferences. 
  3. In Fetch Preferences dialog box select the Download tab.  
  4. In the Save downloaded files to'field select the destination folder for your transferred files (e.g. Desktop). 
  5. In the Fetch connection window select the File you want to transfer to your local computer (e.g. file in our case).  
  6. Once you have selected the desired file select the Get button. 

 

Transfer a file to BGUnix

  1. Select the Put button to open the dialog windows where you can choose which file to transfer. 
  2. A dialog window will open where you have to browse and select the file you want to transfer.  
  3. Once you have selected the file select the Put button to perform the file transfer.
