Adding a Rubric in Canvas


How to add a Rubric in Canvas.


The Rubric option in Canvas is a tool designed to show the instructor's expectations for student assignments. The Rubric must be added before the assignment is published. Attempting to add the Rubric after the assignment is published will result in not being able to add the Rubric. 

  1. Log into Canvas and select your course from the global navigation pane.
  2. Select Assignments.
  3. Select the assignment you wish to add a Rubric to.
  4. Select +Rubric below the assignment details.
  5. Once the Rubric comes up, add Criteria Description, Marks, and points as necessary. 
  6. Select Criteria+ to add additional descriptions, marks or points.
  7. Once done, select Create Rubric.
    • Name your Rubric.
  8. The Rubric has now been created.
