How do I use Zoom in Canvas as an instructor?

If you have never logged in to Zoom before, you may be asked to confirm your email.
Expand the panels in this article for information on using Zoom in Canvas as an instructor.
Enabling Zoom in Canvas
To enable Zoom for your Canvas course:
- Open your Canvas course and select Settings.
- Select the Navigation tab at the top.
- Locate Zoom from the bottom of the Navigation screen and drag it above the text stating “Drag items here to hide them…”.
- Select Save.
Scheduling a Zoom Meeting Within a Canvas Course
Once you have enabled Zoom in Canvas, follow these instructions to schedule a meeting:
- Navigate to your Canvas Course.
- From the left navigation, select Zoom.
- Select the Schedule a New Meeting button.
- Enter the information about your meeting including the topic, date and time, and duration.
- If you would like to schedule this as a Recurring Meeting, check the Recurring Meeting box and enter the recurrence details.
- Select if you would like to require students to enter into a Waiting Room prior to entering the meeting by checking the Waiting Room box.
- Select your preferred Video, Audio and Meeting Options.
- The Alternative Hosts section cannot be edited and automatically includes all teaching assistants and instructors associated with the course.
- Select Save to finish scheduling your meeting.
You can access your scheduled meetings from the Zoom section of your course under Upcoming Meetings.

Create Office Hours in Canvas Using Zoom
- Open your course in Canvas.
- Make sure that Zoom for Canvas has been enabled in your course.
- From the course navigation, select Zoom.
- Select Schedule a New Meeting.
- In the Topic header, name your Zoom meeting “Office Hours.”
- Under Time Zone, check the Recurring meeting checkbox
- In the Security settings, select Waiting Room.
- Change the recurrence to No Fixed Time.
- This will generate a meeting link that can be used at any time and will expire after 365 days.
- Under Meeting Options confirm Enable join before host is not selected. Students who join the meeting before you will see a notice to wait.
- Select Save.
Once your meeting has been created, students can access the meeting by selecting Zoom from the Canvas menu. In your message, make sure to also state when you will hold your office hours.
Importing a Zoom Meeting Into Canvas
If you have created a Zoom meeting for your course in the Zoom web application, you can easily import it into Canvas for students to access by following the instructions below.
- Navigate to your Canvas course.
- Ensure Zoom is enabled for your Canvas course.
- Select Zoom from the course navigation.
- Select the vertical ellipses located to the right of the Schedule a New Meeting button in the upper right-hand corner of the screen.
- Select Import Meeting.
- Copy and paste the Meeting ID into the box of the meeting you would like to import into your Canvas course.
- Select Import.
Accessing Zoom Attendance Reports in Canvas
- Navigate to your Canvas course.
- Select Zoom from the course navigation.
- Select the Previous Meetings tab.
- Find the meeting for which you would like to view an attendance report,
- Select Report.
- The Attendance Report will show the users' session information.
- To download a copy of the report to a CSV file select Export as a CSV file.
Accessing Zoom Cloud Recordings in Canvas
- Navigate to the Canvas Course in which you recorded the meeting.
- Select Zoom from the course's left navigation menu.
- Select the Cloud Recordings tab.
- Select the recording you would like to view.
- Press play.
- If a password is required, it will be copied to your clipboard to paste in the password field.
- You can also close the video window to return to the recording page and select either the eye icon to view the password, or the copy icon to copy the password.
- Select Download to download the recording to your device, or select Share to generate a link for sharing.
Unable to Access Zoom in Canvas
All instructors in team-taught courses should first sign in to Zoom using the information on bgsu.edu/zoom one time before using Canvas.
