BGSU Software Support Criteria

Question

What is university-supported software?

Answer

Information Technology Services (ITS) provides assistance with software that is officially supported by the University. Officially supported software is:

  • Reviewed and approved through the University’s software procurement process

  • Purchased with university funding.

ITS will:

  • Assist with the installation/deployment of the software on a university device.

  • Confirm that the software can launch successfully on a vendor-supported operating system on a university device.

  • Best effort may be given for out-of-date operating systems no longer supported by the vendor – this is dependent on resource availability.

  • Troubleshoot errors that arise with the use of the software on a university device (application crashes, error messages, etc.).

ITS will provide a best-effort install attempt on a vendor-supported operating system for existing/legacy software that was purchased with university funds but has not yet been reviewed and approved by BGSU. ITS cannot guarantee that unreviewed software can be installed.

All other software may receive a best-effort install attempt on a vendor-supported operating system on a university device, but this is highly dependent on resource availability. Faculty/staff should use BGSU supported software for all university business.

Please note: ITS reserves the right to remove or block unsupported software from university devices at any time.
