What is a University-Owned Secondary Device?

Question

What classifies a device as a BGSU secondary device?

Answer

A secondary device is any additional, non-primary device requested for or purchased by a campus academic or business unit for a BGSU employee’s individual use. A secondary device is assigned to a single user. Secondary device requests are approved on a case-by-case basis and require a specific business purpose. Secondary devices should be limited because the standard University-owned device is a laptop, which offers all of the same capabilities as a desktop device but with the added advantages of mobility (University laptops can be set up to function as a desktop device; see our Workspace Setup Options webpage for more information). ITS will assist users with consolidating to one device and make recommendations for optimal setup.

As of June 2021, secondary devices must be paid for by the user's college/department.
