Question
How do I use the cut tool in Canvas Studio?
Answer
You can use the cut tool in Canvas Studio to fix narration in your recordings as well as finding and fixing silence in your recording.
Using the Cut Tool
- After you have created your video in Canvas Studio, select Edit on the video preview screen.
- Click on the location of the timeline right before the location where you would like to cut.
- Select Tools.
- Select Cut.
- Drag the red bar to select what you would like to cut from your timeline.
- You can also use the left and right arrows in the toolbar to select everything to the right, or everything to the left of the red bar.
- Everything that you will be cutting from the video will be highlighted red on the timeline.
- If you would like to preview what you have selected to cut, select the play button from the menu.
- When you are happy with your edit, select OK.
- After the cut is added, a dashed red line will show you where the cut happened on the timeline.
- If you want to later undo the cut, you can seek back to that spot on the timeline, select the red scissor icon followed by then the minus icon, to remove this cut.
Fixing Silence in Narration
If you have large sections of silence in your video, the Canvas Studio editor will help find and correct them.
- On the right-hand side of our window, under the Audio heading, there will be an exclamation point if the editor detects large sections of silence. Click the exclamation point to see the silence on your timeline.
- You can change the threshold for how much silence it finds by moving the slider.
- You can choose for the editor to speed up all the silence if the video content was important, or cut all the silence.
