Modifying the SharePoint Homepage


How do I customize the SharePoint homepage?


The default SharePoint site homepage can be modified with images, or to display announcements, tasks, or calendar items. Users must have Site Owner permissions to make these modifications. To customize your homepage follow these instructions:

  1. Log in to SharePoint with your BGSU username and password
  2. Select Home from the left navigation menu. 
  3. Select the Page tab from the top ribbon.
  4. Select the Edit button. 
  5. Remove any unwanted components (these are called web parts).
    1. Select the drop-down arrow next to the web part you would like to remove.
    2. Select delete.
  6. To modify the layout:
    1. Select Text Layout from the top ribbon. 
    2. Review and select your preferred layout from the available options.
  7. If you chose a layout with a header, click into the header text box to add a welcome message, description or instructions about the site. 
    • Use the Format Text tab to edit the font, color, font size, etc. 
  8. Select the Insert tab to insert an image, video, table, or web part into your layout. 
  9. When you are finished making modifications to the page select the Page tab followed by the Save button.
