Code 42 (CrashPlan Pro) for University Computers

Question

What is Code 42 (CrashPlan Pro)?

Answer

Code 42 has been configured to backup the contents of the primary user’s home folder (Desktop, Documents, Downloads, etc.) on their primary computer whenever the computer is on the campus network.

Code 42 is not configured to backup your entire hard drive; therefore, be sure to maintain your important files within one of the folders that are being backed up.

Code 42 will not backup several filetypes, such as disk image (e.g. DMG, ISO, MSI), music, video, or virtual machine files.  For a detailed list, please contact the Technology Support Center.

Once the initial backup completes:

  1. Code 42 has been configured to upload a backup of the primary user’s home folder to the server every 4 hours.
  2. Backups are maintained as follows: one copy for every 4 hour period for the last 24 hours, one copy for the last week, and one copy for the last 90 day period.
  3. Deleted files will continue to be recoverable for 90 days.
  4. Backups or deleted files older than 90 days will no longer be recoverable.
