Report Fraudulent Emails to Abuse@bgsu.edu

Question

I received a message to my BGSU email account that I believe may be fraudulent, what should I do?

Answer

  1. Do not respond/click on any of the links within the message.
  2. Forward the suspicious message using shortcut in the menu bar "Report Message" (Shield Icon) followed by "Report phishing", or send as an attachment to abuse@bgsu.edu. 
  3. Delete the message from your inbox.

The ITS Security team reviews every email sent to abuse@bgsu.edu.  If the ITS security team determines the email is fraudulent and is being sent to a broad base of BGSU account holders a ITS Fraud Notice message will be sent out that will include a warning and more information about the suspicious message. Otherwise, the individual reporting the suspicious email may receive a direct message back from an ITS security analyst.
