How do I reset my macOS Keychain using Keychain Access?
Answer
If you remember your previous password, follow these instructions
If you do not remember your previous password or change password option is greyed out, follow these instructions
- Select Utilities from the Go menu in the Finder.
- Open Keychain Access.
- If you do not see keychain in Utilities Navigate to System/Library/CoreServices/Applications/
- From the Edit menu, chose Change Password for Keychain "login".
- Type in the former password of the account that you are currently logged in to, then select OK.
- If you entered the correct password, a new window will appear; enter the former password again in the Current Password field.
- In the New Password field, type the password that matches your new/current account password.
- Re-enter the newer password in the Verify field, then click OK.
- Select Utilities from the Go menu in the Finder.
- Open Keychain Access.
- In Keychain Access, choose Settings from the Keychain Access menu.
- If available, select the Reset My Default Keychain button. This will remove the login keychain and create a new one with the password provided.
