TurnItIn Assignment Creation and Settings

Question

How do I create an assignment using TurnItIn and how do I manage settings within TurnItIn?

Answer

Creating an Assignment:

  1. Log in to Canvas as a teacher or TA.
  2. Select the course in which you would like to create your assignment.
  3. Select assignment from the course navigation menu on the left.
  4. Select the +Assignment button at the top of the assignment page.
  5. Change the display grade to anything other than not graded.  
  6. Choose a submission type of text entry or file upload.
  7. Choose your submission attempts:
    1. Unlimited - if you chose limited, update the number of attempts allowed.
    2. Limited
  8. Choose Turnitin from the Plagiarism Review drop down box.  
  9. The Turnitin setting will be displayed.  Update as necessary. 
  10. Choose whether to store the submissions:  Standard paper repository or do not store submitted paper.
  11. Choose to store papers in the repository or not, choose to which repositories you want to compare the submissions, choose to exclude the bibliography, quoted material, translated matching (if enabled), and small sources as needed.
  12. Choose whether to provide student feedback immediately, after assignment is graded, after due date or never.
  13. Update the Assign section with the appropriate assigned to, due date, available from and to.  
  14. Select Save & publish to publish this assignment. Select Save to save the assignment.
