What applications are recommended for BGLinux connections?

Windows 

Direct, SSH, connections to BGLinux using PuTTY, a free Telnet/SSH client which supports SSH version 2.  More information regarding PuTTY can be found on their site. (http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/putty)

File transfer, SFTP, connections can be made using WinSCP. More information about WinSCP can be found on their site. (https://winscp.net)

For X11 (X-Windows) connections, Hummingbrid Exceed (http://connectivity.opentext.com/products/exceed-products.aspx?_ga=1.196829996.1067861314.1439231343) is installed in the Hayes Hall 025 Lab and can be installed on Faculty and Staff desktop systems upon request.

Mac 

Direct SSH connections to BGLinux can be made directly within the MacOS X Terminal applications using the "ssh" and "sftp" commands, and a graphical interface to SFTP can be made using Fetch (http://fetchsoftworks.com).  

X11 (X-Windows) connections can be made from Mac OS X systems using Xquartz (http://xquartz.macosforge.org/landing), which is available in selected labs, and can be installed on Faclty and Staff desktop systems by double-clicking on the "X11" in the Applications/Utilities folder.
