Add an Unsubscribe Link to LISTSERV Messages

How do I add an unsubscribe link to my LISTSERV messages?

Answer

LISTSERV owners can can add an unsubscribe link to the postings or messages they send to their BGSU LISTSERV lists. To add the unsubscribe link owners must edit the two templates associated with their LISTSERV by following these steps:

Edit LISTSERV Templates

  1. Navigate to the LISTSERV administrative console. 
  2. Select Log IN.
  3. Enter your full BGSU email address and your BGSU password. 
    1. Note: You must have a preconfigure LISTSERV account to log in.
  4. Under the LIst Management dropdown menu, select List Reports to display all the LISTSERVs for which you are owner. 
  5. On this page, select the link to the LISTSERV to which you would like to add an unsubscribe link.
  6. From the List Management dropdown menu, select Mail Templates. 
  7. Search for the templates associated with your list by entering the text 'bottom_banner' and selecting Search. 
  8. When you view the dropdown menu under Select Template you will see your two templates. There will be a BOTTOM_BANNER for plain text postings and a BOTTOM_BANNER_HTML for HTML postings. Both templates need to be edited.
  9. Select the BOTTOM_BANNER template.
  10. Enter the text just as it appears in the BOTTOM_BANNER Text section below with one exception: replace TESTLIST with the name of your LISTSERV in all caps. 
  11. When finished​​​​​​​, select Update. 
  12. You will see a message at the top of the page indicating that the BOTTOM_BANNER form has been successfully stored.
  13. Select the back button twice to go back to the dropdown menu that includes your templates. 
  14. Select the BOTTOM_BANNER_HTML template.
  15. Enter the text just as it appears in the BOTTOM_BANNER_HTML Text section below with one exception: replace TESTLIST with the name of your LISTSERV in all caps. 
  16. ​​​​​​​When finished​​​​​​​, select Update. 
  17. You will see a message at the top of the page indicating that the BOTTOM_BANNER_HTML form has been successfully stored.

NOTE: Only users who are not the owner of the BGSU LISTSERV can use the unsubscribe link to unsubscribe.
