How do I connect my Amazon Echo Dot to the BGSU network

Answer

To connect your Amazon Echo Dot to the BGSU network, select to expand the instructions for your specific residence hall below.

Please Note: You must have a BGSU email address to register a gaming/streaming device.

  1. Navigate to www.bgsu.edu/registermydevice. (Link only works on phone or computer connected to BGSU's network)
    • You will be redirected to an Aruba Clear Pass webpage for the device registration process.
  2. Log in with your BGSU email address and password
  3. Enter a Device Name
    • This is a brief description of what the device is. 
  4. Enter the MAC address of the device. This can be found on the original packaging of your device. If you do not have the original packaging:
    1. Download the Amazon Alexa app to your phone or computer and log in with your Amazon account credentials
    2. Enter setup mode. Select Manual Setup
    3. Connect to the wireless network transmitted by your Echo device. The wireless MAC address for your Echo can be found at the bottom of the Echo Setup screen in the Alexa app. 
  5. Enter your email address
    • ITS recommends using your BGSU email address. 
  6. Choose the Device Type from the drop-down menu. 
    • For streaming devices like an AppleTV or Chrome Stick, choose Other
    • For gaming devices like an Xbox, choose Gaming
  7. Select Create Device
  8. You will be directed to your device receipt page with the Wi-Fi password. The Wi-Fi password for each device you register will be unique. You will also receive an email at the email address you provided during the registration process with this password. 
  9. On your device, connect to BGSU-IoT
    • Password: Wi-Fi password provided during the registration process.
