Create/Change BGSU Password Security Question
Create a Security Question
- Log in to MyBGSU.
- Select the Tools & Resources Quick Link menu.
- Select Password Management from the drop-down menu.
- Scroll down the page to the Security Question section.
- Select Set Up next to Security Question.
- Enter your BGSU password.
- Select Verify (if prompted).
- Authenticate via Multifactor Authentication.
- Select Setup.
- Select Choose a security question if you would like to choose a built-in security question.
- Use the drop-down menu to select a security question under Choose a Security Question.
- Enter the answer to the security question in the Answer Field.
- Select Create my own security question to make your own security question.
- Enter the security question you would like to use in the Create my own security question field.
- Enter the answer to the security question in the Answer Field.
- Select Verify.
- Your security question is now set.
Update an Existing Security Question
- Log in to MyBGSU.
- Select the Tools & Resources Quick Link menu.
- Select Password Management from the drop-down menu.
- Scroll down the page to the Security Question section.
- Select Remove to remove the existing security question.
- Select Yes.
- Enter your BGSU password.
- Select Verify.
- Authenticate via Multifactor Authentication.
- Return to the Security Methods page.
- Select Set Up next to Security Question.
- Enter your BGSU password.
- Select Verify (if prompted).
- Authenticate via Multifactor Authentication.
- Select Setup.
- Select Choose a security question if you would like to choose a built-in security question.
- Use the drop-down menu to select a security question under Choose a Security Question.
- Enter the answer to the security question in the Answer Field.
- Select Create my own security question to make your own security question.
- Enter the security question you would like to use in the Create my own security question field.
- Enter the answer to the security question in the Answer Field.
- Select Verify.
- Your security question is now set.
Security Question Creation Guidelines
Many sites and services require security questions when you register an account. This is to help confirm your identity in the event you forget your password.
To select strong security questions, please take the following guidelines into consideration:
Security Questions should have the following characteristics:
- Answer never changes
- Easy to remember, even 10 years from now
- At least thousands of possible answers
- Simple one or two word answer
Things to Avoid:
- Favorites, these change over time
- Information that can be readily found on the Internet
- What is the color of …, limited number of choices
- Your first and last name
- Bowling Green- as the school name
