BGSU Telephone FAQ/General Information

Levels of calling access are set by department Budget Administrators. These levels are as follows:

• International
• Long distance
• Local (non-toll)
• On-campus only

If you are unable to completed needed calls, please discuss your level of calling access with your Budget Administrator.  If you do not have the desired level assigned, Budget Administrators can submit a Telephone: Request Change in Service Form.

If you are experiencing issues with your BGSU phone, try power cycling as a first troubleshooting step. 

1. Unplug the blue Ethernet cable in the port labeled Network located on the back of the phone. 
2. Wait 10 seconds and then plug the cable back in.
   • Cable must be plugged into the same connector.  If the phone is not booting up it is an indicator that it was not plugged into the correct connector.
3. Telephone will now turn back on.

To change the name/voicemail on a BGSU phone, please complete the form on this page to request these changes. 

To disable video, press the camera icon on the phone. The physical switch at the top of the desk phone can be slid open and closed to block the camera completely. 

The process for making an international call from an on-campus phone is similar to making an international call from anywhere outside of BGSU, with the exception that the caller must first dial 9 to reach an outside number. Use the international dialing sequence below to make your call.

9 + 011 + Country Code + City/Area Code (if any) + Phone Number

Every country is assigned its own country code. Sometimes the country code is shared among countries. For example, the USA, Canada, and much of the Caribbean use the country code 1. Country codes may change over time so it is important to consult an updated list of codes prior to dialing out.

When making international calls, standard international long distance rates DO apply.

There is currently no way to block numbers on office telephones.

The BGSU phone directory information is published as new users are added to the new phone system.  The BGSU phone directory will include all users as long as they are in the system.

BGSU telephone displays are set to be active from 7:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Outside of these hours, the display is off but pressing any button or lifting the handset will turn the display on.
