How is software purchased at the University?

Below are the various scenarios that may occur when purchasing university software:
Scenario One
The correct process: submit procurement request prior to any action if the software needs to be reviewed.
A software procurement request is not needed if the software has already been reviewed and approved.
Scenario Two
Job-related software purchased by faculty/staff/student and the license is in BGSU’s name and downloaded on BGSU device
- Eligible for reimbursement.
- Security, Accessibility, and Legal review needed.
- ITS support pending approval from review process.
- Note: software used for university business on a BGSU device must be licensed to BGSU.
Scenario Three
Job-related software purchased by faculty/staff/student and the license is in their name and downloaded on BGSU device.
- No reimbursement.
- Security, Accessibility, and Legal review needed.
- Limited ITS support.
Scenario Four
Job-related software purchased by faculty/staff/student and the license is in their name and downloaded on a personal device.
- No reimbursement.
- No review needed.
- No ITS support.
