Telephone: Request Cell Phone Stipend

Who can use it?

BGSU Faculty, Staff

What is it?

A monthly cell phone stipend is provided for business use of an employee's personal mobile device.

For more information on cell phone stipends, review the Cellular Services policy.

Where to get it?

Please complete the Request Cell Phone Stipend form on this page, print, and obtain the required signatures. This is typically initiated by the employee’s supervisor. Upon completion, please return to the Office of Human Resources.

How to use it?

The monthly cell phone stipend covers the business use of the faculty/staff personal cell phone device.

Monthly stipends are determined by the supervisor in conjunction with the President/Division Head.

The stipend will be paid in the month that the form is received and entered into the system as long as all proper completed paperwork is received prior to data entering deadlines for payroll processing. For those paid on a biweekly schedule, the stipend will be paid on the 1st and 2nd check of the month in half of the monthly stipend amount.

Note that the stipend does not constitute an increase in base pay and will not be included in any percentage calculations for increase to base.

How much does it cost?

The value of the stipend will be determined by the department and will be up to the department to allocate those funds.

The employee’s cellular telephone stipend is taxable income. Other employee deductions such as retirement are not affected by the stipend.
