Connecting a PC Laptop to the AV System Using VGA

Question

How do I connect my PC laptop to the classroom AV system via VGA?

Answer

Follow the steps below to connect your device:

  1. Turn on the AV System.
  2. Connect the VGA cable to the VGA port at the AV cabinet, eNook or teaching station (a VGA cable should be in the AV cabinet or on the teaching station).
  3. Plug in the mini audio cable into the audio jack.
  4. Connect the other end of the VGA cable into the VGA port on the laptop.
  5. Confirm the mini audio cable is plugged into the headphone jack on the computer.
  6. If you are using a single screen system, press VGA on the touch panel.  If you are using a multi screen system, press the appropriate display, then press VGA for each display you want to show your laptop.

*This set up will only work with a PC Laptop that has a VGA port.  Newer Laptops will have HDMI connections.  If your PC does not have a VGA port, please refer to the Connecting a PC laptop via HDMI article.

Troubleshooting

  • If laptop image does not appear on the projector/flatscreen, confirm the VGA cable is securely attached to the ports.
  • If image does not appear, restart the touch panel.  This will restart the video projectors as well as the touch panel.
  • Confirm resolution of the laptop is set to the lowest resolution available.
