Connecting a PC laptop to the AV system using VGA

Question

How do I hookup my PC laptop to the classroom AV system via VGA?

Answer

Follow the steps below to connect your device:

  • Turn on the AV System.
  • Connect the VGA cable to the VGA port at the AV cabinet, eNook or Teaching station (a VGA cable should be in the AV cabinet or on the Teaching station).  Make sure to plug in the mini audio cable into the Audio jack!
  • Connect the other end of the VGA cable into the VGA port on the laptop.  Once again, make sure the mini audio cable is plugged into the HEADPHONE jack on the computer.
  • If you are using a single screen system, please press VGA on the Touch Panel.  If you are using a multi screen system, please press the appropriate display and then press VGA for each display you want to show your laptop.

*Please note:  This set up will only work with a PC Laptop that has a VGA port.  Newer Laptops will have HDMI connections.  If your PC does not have a VGA port, please refer to the Connecting a PC laptop via HDMI article.

Troubleshooting advice

  • If the laptop image does not appear on the projector or flatscreen, make sure the VGA cable is securely attached to the ports.
  • If the image does not appear, a system restart may need to be done to the Touch Panel.  This will restart the Video Projectors as well as the Touch Panel.
  • Please make sure the resolution of the laptop is set to the lowest resolution possible.
