CRES Secure Email: Request Account

Who can use it?

BGSU Faculty, Staff

What is it?

The secure email solution for BGSU is Cisco Registered Envelope Service (CRES). A registered envelope is a type of encrypted email message. This service enables those individuals with BGSU accounts to easily send and receive encrypted emails. Encryption prevents important or confidential information from getting into the wrong hands. The service also protects against accidental or intentional breaches of security.

Where to get it?

Click on the "Request Account" button to request a CRES account from ITS. If you need access to this service immediately, please contact the TSC at 419-372-0999.

CRES is hosted outside of the BGSU domain and requires users to create an account within the site in order to send or receive emails. The user account is free and should be set up using a BGSU email account. There is no single sign on, so please make note of the User ID, password and security questions separate from your BGSU login credentials. Click here for instructions on creating your account once the request has been submitted and processed. Click here to access the secured CRES site once your account has been created.

How to use it?

To send a secure email, log in to the CRES site and go to the Compose Message page. See the user guide link below for more detailed instructions. If you are the recipient of a secure email, you will receive an email in your BGSU inbox notifying you that you have received a secure email. It will instruct you to open the html attachment to access the CRES site. You will be required to log in to CRES to read the email or to set up an account on the site if you do not currently have one.
