File Share

University File Sharing services provide shared storage space and access to University documents from a single location to enhance collaboration. Access to the file shares are restricted to specific users and groups as specified by the owner(s) of the shared space. The amount of storage space made available from file shares is negotiated between ITS and the requesting department. Documents stored within the file shares are backed up nightly to prevent data loss. Files sharing services are available to both Windows and Apple computers from on-campus locations.

SharePoint Sites & MS Teams

SharePoint Sites is a powerful tool that provides departments, project teams and communities at BGSU the ability to share and collaborate on files via the web. Sites are packaged with a variety of valuable features that are not readily available within standard network file shares. Using Sites one can:

- Create team sites and document libraries to keep files organized
- Set controls limiting who can see and/or edit your documents
- Follow documents, people and tags to stay informed about projects and activities
- Post questions and ideas to the newsfeed for users to view and add comments
- Collaborate on Microsoft Office documents (Word, Excel, Powerpoint)
- Create versions of files for future comparison
- Use metadata to categorize content and create customized views

CRES Secure Email

The secure email solution for BGSU is Cisco Registered Envelope Service (CRES). A registered envelope is a type of encrypted email message. This service enables those individuals with BGSU accounts to easily send and receive encrypted emails. Encryption prevents important or confidential information from getting into the wrong hands. The service also protects against accidental or intentional breaches of security.

Please note, this service is only available to active faculty/staff/students. For more information about using CRES, please log in to the ITS service portal.
