Question

How can I troubleshoot a slow device?

Answer

There are several factors that may cause your device to run slower than what you are typically used to.

  1. Keep track of the applications you have open. Even the newest computers have limitations, so it is best practice to close any open applications when not in use.
    • Check Open Applications on Windows Device
    1. Look at the Windows toolbar at the bottom of the screen. Any applications (icons) underlined in blue are currently open and running.
    2. Select the carrot icon in the right corner of the toolbar to view additional open applications.
    • Check Open Applications on Mac Device
      1. Open applications are indicated with a dot below their icon in the dock/toolbar.
      2. Additional open applications may be displayed as icons next to the clock in the top right corner of the screen
  2. Run system updates when prompted.
  3. Restart your computer regularly.

If your device is still running slowly after trying each of the above, please contact ITS for additional assistance.
