Question

How do I enable/use a Webex breakout session?

Answer

Follow the instructions below to enable and create a breakout session for your Webex meeting. You must enable breakout sessions for/in each meeting for which you wish to use them.

  1.  Enable the breakout session feature:
    1. When scheduling a Webex meeting:
      1. Log in to bgsu.webex.com
      2. Select Schedule a meeting.
      3. Enter your meeting details.
      4. Select Show advanced options.
      5. Select Scheduling options.
      6. Check the box next to Enable breakout sessions.
      7. Select Schedule.
      8. The Breakout Sessions button will appear in the scheduled meeting's meeting controls once the meeting is started.
    2. During Webex meeting:
      1. Launch/start your Webex meeting.
      2. Select the Breakout tab from the menu bar at the top of the meeting window.
      3. From the drop-down menu, select Enable Breakout Session.
      4. This will add the Breakout Sessions button to your meeting controls at the bottom of your meeting window.
  2. Select the Breakout Sessions button from your meeting controls.
  3. Select the number of breakout sessions that you want to create and how you would like to assign your participants:
    1. Automatically: Webex will split your participants up evenly into each of the breakout sessions.
    2. Manually: You assign participants to each breakout session.
  4. Select Start Assignment.
  5. The breakout session(s) will be created.
    • If you chose Automatically in Step 3, the participants are assigned.
    • If you chose Manually in Step 3, you can now assign participants to breakout sessions.
  6. When you're ready to start all breakout sessions, select Start breakout sessions.

Please note: Breakout room assignments cannot be prepared ahead of time via Canvas, but they can be created within a live meeting originally scheduled via Canvas. The host must first schedule and launch/start the meeting and then create their breakout room from within the launched meeting.
