VPN Account/Access Information

Question

What is the BGSU VPN and as a faculty/staff, can I access it?

Answer

The BGSU Virtual Private Network (VPN) allows users to securely access resources on the BGSU network while off-campus. When connected to VPN off-campus users can access secure websites, BGSU file shares, on-campus only software, and their on-campus computer.

Information Technology Services (ITS) provides all faculty and staff affiliated employees with a VPN account that can be accessed using their BGSU credentials.

VPN Access Options

Pulse Secure

Use the Pulse Secure application for seamless access to items such as campus-only software and the R Drive while physically off-campus. Once logged into Pulse Secure, user experience is identical to being physically on-campus.  Follow these instructions to confirm Pulse Secure is installed on your device.

Connect to VPN via Pulse Secure

Web Interface & Remote Desktop Connection (RDP)

Navigate to vpn.bgsu.edu and log in with your BGSU credentials.  No software is needed.  Users can create Web Bookmarks for on-campus only web applications such as Peoplesoft HCM, FMS, and CSS. The web interface is required for RDP access.

RDP allows a user to connect an off-campus device directly to a device located on-campus, typically to access local files or applications physically stored on the on-campus device. RDP is NOT preconfigured on University-owned devices. If you believe you require RDP access contact ITS.
