Mentioning a User in Microsoft Teams

Question

How do I mention a user in Microsoft Teams and what does this do?

Answer

From the Posts tab of a Channel within a Team, users can individually communicate with other users by mentioning them in a message. To mention someone in a channel conversation:

  1. Type the @ symbol into the text field and type the individual's name.
  2. Select their name from the list of options in the suggestion window. 
  3. Type the rest of your message and select send

A user who has been mentioned in a conversation will receive a notification in the bottom corner of their screen as well as in the Activity window (unless they have adjusted their notification preferences).  This communication will be available in the general Channel feed for all Channel member's viewing.
