Canvas Webex authenticateUser #999999 Error


User receives an authenticateUser error when attempting to access a meeting or quick launch a Webex meeting from Canvas.

Error Message:

"failed to load required information. Webex Error in user authenticateUser #999999. webexid or email is required"




User attempts to use Webex through Canvas before ever using/logging in to the Webex application outside of Canvas. Follow these instructions to setup Webex prior to using Canvas Webex tool. 


To fix this issue, please follow the steps below.

  1. Log in to Canvas
  2. Select the course for which you scheduled the meeting.
  3. Select Webex from the left navigation.
  4. Select Account Settings in the very top right corner of the Webex screen
  5. Select Conferencing Accounts from the left navigation.
  6. Select the button labeled Reassociate my account.

Please Note: All previously saved meetings will need to be recreated. 

ITS will decommission the Canvas Webex integration at the end of the Fall 2021 Semester. In response to faculty input, the Canvas Zoom integration was implemented during the Fall 2020 Semester as a replacement for Webex. Faculty who have not yet made the transition to Zoom should prepare to do so in the coming months, which includes the export of videos currently stored in Webex. Visit for more information.
