Connect to BGSU Network on University Device via VPN/Pulse Secure

Question

How do I connect to the BGSU network (via VPN/Pulse Secure) from my university device while off-campus? 

Answer

Note: These steps are for using Pulse Secure only on a university owned device. Using Pulse Secure will connect your computer directly to the BGSU network. Once connected you will be able to access the same sites you would only be able to access on campus.

  1. Power on your device and login with your BGSU username and password.
  2. Connect to your home wireless network.
    1. Select the carrot symbol in the bottom right corner of the screen's toolbar.
    2. Select the Wireless Network Connection icon.
    3. Select your home wireless network from the list of available networks.
    4. Select Connect.
    5. Enter your home WiFi password and then select Next, followed by Yes.
    6. You should now be connected to your home WiFi.
  3. Ensure your device has Pulse Secure installed on it.
  4. Connect to the BGSU network via Pulse Secure (if necessary):
    1. Open Pulse Secure.
      • Windows device: Type Pulse into the Windows search tool in the bottom left corner of your screen and select the Pulse Secure Desktop App.
      • Mac device: Open the Finder, select Applications and select Pulse Secure. ​​​​​​​
    2. Select Connect.
    3. Enter your BGSU Username and Password and then select Connect.
    4. For the secondary password (this is Duo Two Factor Authentication), type one of the following into the text box.
      • For a Push Notification: Type push. A push notification will appear on your phone.
      • For a Phone callType in phone and the system will call you and press 1 when prompted.
      • For PasscodeOpen your DUO mobile apptap the down arrow next to Bowling Green State University. Enter the passcode shown into the text box.
      • For a TextType SMS in the text box. The system will send you a text message with the passcode. Type it in the text box.
    5. Select Connect.
  5. Approve your Duo authentication notification.
  6. You should now be connected to the BGSU VPN
